Navigation and Health Helplines

Provides support groups for individuals living with endometriosis or suspected endometriosis. Includes:

• Facebook Support Group: Provides a platform to connect with others and share resources.
• Bi-monthly Online support Groups: Provides a virtual support group via Zoom

Provides a volunteer-run, free telephone and email information service that answers questions about thyroid disease.

• Service navigation
• Support for those living with HIV and/or Hep C
• Help and support to get tested for HIV, Hep C and all other sexually transmitted infections
• Support to those who are newly diagnosed including information about treatment options

Volunteers meet with newly diagnosed breast cancer patients to discuss supports available to them in Epekwitk / PEI.

Meeting locations are determined by the patient and volunteer.

Provides occupational therapy services for children to help them with motor and sensory skills, where there is a concern the child is not meeting developmental milestones. Occupational therapy can help children in the areas of:

• Self care: Toileting, dressing, bathing, feeding self, eating, as well as following the home routine and completing simple chores
• Play skills: Playing with a variety of toys and different textures/materials(ex: taking turns and copying actions)
• Preschool readiness: Drawing, colouring, using scissors, building with blocks or puzzles
• Exploring environment: Moving around environment safely ( ex: participating on playground equipment)
• Sensory input: Tolerating different sounds, smells, tastes, or textures

Note: School based occupational therapy for school-aged children is also available, but referrals must come from the school and there is no self-referral process.

• Helping you find and access community resources
• Providing your with access to informative booklets, websites and support groups
• Answering questions about the stroke recovery process

Helps families with children who have complex medical needs navigate the healthcare system, finding both medical and non-medical services through support, education, advocacy, and referrals to programs and services. Includes:

• Understand medical diagnosis and needs
• Answer questions about screening, testing, and care plans
• Navigate the healthcare system
• Listen to concerns
• Connect with programs and services (social programs, community groups, counselling, spiritual care)
• Support during out-of-province medical travel
• Coordinate care between provinces
• Connect to financial resources for medications, travel, and medical supplies

Note: The navigators cannot provide medical care.

• Information on animal exposures when information is available

• Identify and work with health care providers and programs that provide support
• Help find and access community resources
• Help coordinate health care services required
• Answer questions about the health care system (both on- and off-Island services)
