Power Outages and Reporting:

  • Summerside Electric (Summerside only): Call 902-432-1268 to report an outage or downed line. Visit website to see outage information.
  • Maritime Electric (all of PEI except Summerside): Call 1-800-670-1012 to report an outage or downed line, or visit website to make a report online or check outage information.

Waste Collection:

  • Island Waste Management Corporation (IWMC): Website posts updates about delays and cancellations or call 1-888-280-8111.

Fire Advisories:

  • Fire Weather Index: The index establishes the risk of forest or brush fires and if there are any burn restrictions based on the current weather and other environmental factors.

Emergency Preparedness Information:

  • PEI Emergency Management Organization (EMO): Website lists information to for how to prepare for different types of disasters and emergencies.
  • Canadian Red Cross: Website has information about how businesses and individuals can prepare for emergencies and disasters, including generator safety.
  • Government of Canada: General information for how to prepare for emergencies.
  • Government of PEI: Extreme Weather Safety
  • Government of PEI: Food Safety and Drinking Water Safety
  • FireSmart: Website has information to help the public understand and mitigate wildfire risks around their homes and on their property.

Storm Shelters:

  • During a disaster, municipalities will make an announcement if they are opening a comfort centre (also known as reception centres or storm shelters). The Government of PEI has a searchable database of centres located PEI.

Wellness Checks:

  • A home visit can be requested by police or RCMP if you are concerned about a friend or family members’ health or safety. Wellness checks are for non-emergency situations. If an emergency, dial 9-1-1.

Emergency Response Programs:

  • Canadian Red Cross – PEI Branch: Emergency and Disaster Services helps people affected by emergencies and disasters - situations ranging from house fires to floods and evacuations. Basic needs assistance provided in the first 72 hours after an emergency. 
  • Canadian Red Cross – PEI Branch: Restoring Family Links helps people in Canada re-establish contact with immediate family members internationally after separation due to armed conflict, natural disasters, migration and other humanitarian crises.

Fuel Station Resiliency Sites With Generators

  • Some gas stations, service stations, and general stores across the Island are now equipped with a generator to continue service during a large-scale power outage. User this map to find the closest fuel station with backup power for a caller by entering the caller's address.
