Parents of children and youth must register their children prior to their kids starting at a new grade K-12 school. This applies to:
  • Children starting kindergarten
  • Children or youth who are changing schools due to a move

Children and youth who are born outside Canada or who speak a language other than English or French at home are eligible for English as an Additional Language (EAL) and French as an Additional Language (FAL) services. All children who meet this criteria must register with the Department of Education and Lifelong Learning's EAL/FAL Reception Centre before contacting a school to register.
