Provides surgical abortion services are available for individuals who are over 14 weeks pregnant or when a physician is unavailable. Health PEI has arrangements with the Moncton Hospital and the Queen Elizabeth II Hospital in Halifax to provide this service.

Provides access to a registered nurse who is assigned to assist Islanders receiving care at QEII Health Sciences Centre in Halifax or the Moncton Hospital. The liaison nurse is stationed at the hospital where the patient is being cared for and can help PEI patients and their families:
  • Connect with other health care professionals
  • Locate programs and services that are available to help
  • Assist with the discharge process from an out-of-province hospital

Islanders who have been pre-approved for out-of-province medical services may be eligible for travel assistance to appointments in NS and NB through Maritime Bus.

Note: Applicants must apply at least 10 days before out-of-province travel, and the application must be approved prior to purchasing tickets.

Provides in-home and inpatient services to assist people experiencing a progressive life threatening illness and their families. Includes:

  • Medical, nursing and professional care
  • Assistance understanding your illness and treatment options
  • Helping you learn to express your wishes and personal goals and help you to achieve these goals
  • Pain and symptom management
  • Respite care for families/caregivers
  • Advance care planning
  • Ongoing bereavement support for families

Provides regular pap tests for women to help reduce the risk of cervical cancer.

Please note: Clinics are held at various locations across Epekwitk / PEI each year and the most current location information and dates can be found online. Appointments are required.

Provides patients and their families and caregivers with guidance to help find and access services needed in PEI's health care system. Patient Navigators can:
  • Identify and work with health care providers and programs that provide support
  • Help find and access community resources
  • Help coordinate health care services required
  • Answer questions about the health care system (both on- and off-Island services)

PEI residents who do not have a family doctor or nurse practitioner can register to be assigned one.

People should contact the patient registry if they:
  • Do not have a family doctor or nurse practitioner and would like to register for one
  • Have moved within the province and are looking for a family doctor or nurse practitioner in their new area
  • Are expecting a baby and do not have a family physician or nurse practitioner
  • Are currently on the Patient Registry waitlist and your contact information has changed
  • Are on the Patient Registry and have found your own doctor

Eligible patients may book an appointment with a pediatrician. In PEI, pediatricians act as consultants and work alongside a family doctor or nurse practitioner, as well as other members of the child's health care team.

Note: A pediatrician does not replace a family doctor or nurse practitioner.
