BGC Prince County

AKA: Boys and Girls Club of Summerside (former name); Wellington and Area Boys and Girls Club (former name)

Provides programs and services for children, youth, and families, with a focus on healthy living, physical activity, skill development, and creative expression. The organization operates licensed early years programs, afterschool and summer programming, and youth engagement initiatives. BGC Prince County also operates LifeHouse, a 24/7 emergency shelter and housing support system offering short-term shelter, transitional housing, and permanent affordable housing with wraparound supports.

Kids are picked up from participating schools in Summerside, Wellington and Miscouche, and transported to bgc. Once at the Club, kids are given a healthy snack and can participate in structured organized activities, including:
  • Doing their homework
  • Making crafts
  • Participating in sports and physical activities
  • Playing cards and board games
  • Watching a movie
  • Summerside attendees have access to the Credit Union Place for swimming, bowling, and use of the walking track and ice pad
Offered all day on PD days. Kids do not have to be registered in the regular After School Program to attend on a PD day.

A variety of evening programs for youth. Activities change throughout the year but can include:
  • Extreme Crafters Club: participants make unique arts and crafts while reusing, restoring, and recycling materials
  • Kids in the Kitchen Cooking Club and Kid Food Nation: participants learn the basics of baking and kitchen safety
  • Kid Tech Nation: kids learn digital skills, coding concepts, internet safety, and computational thinking
  • Friday Night Drop-in: Activities include sports, arts and crafts, movie nights, video games, flash light tag, and more

National leadership development program that provides youth with the knowledge and skills to make positive choices in their lives and make a difference in their Clubs and communities. Throughout the year, participants complete at least one activity in each of the five core areas:
  • Leadership
  • Teamwork
  • Healthy Choices

  • Learning for Life

An overnight emergency shelter located in Summerside serves women, trans, and non-binary individuals, as well as children who are temporarily unhoused due to various circumstances. Shelter stays are managed on a case-by-case basis and can last up to eight weeks without requiring individuals to leave.

For those needing longer-term support, the LifeHouse Transitional Housing Program is available. To apply, shelter users must stay for a minimum of four weeks before submitting an application. The Housing Committee will then review the case and make a decision. If accepted, individuals may stay in the transitional housing program for up to one year.

Shelter services include:

  • Beds
  • Food and drink
  • Access to laundry and hygiene products
  • Free Wi-Fi
  • Transportation is available to be arranged if needed (call for details)
  • Case management

Transition services include staff supports and learning opportunities include:

  • Case planning
  • Life skills
  • Independence
  • Parenting skills and more

Day camp offered throughout the summer. Kids can be signed up for the entire summer, week-by-week, or three days per week. Camp activities include:
