For everyone:
A medical doctor or nurse practitioner has certified that the person you're providing care for or supporting is critically ill or injured, or needing end-of-life care
You're a family member or you're considered to be like a family member to the person who needs care
For insurable employees:
-Regular work earnings must have decreased more than 40% for at least one week due to having to take time off work to provide care/support
-Have accumulated 600 insured hours of work in the 52 weeks before the start of a claim, or since the last claim (whichever is shorter)
For self-employed people:
- Must have an active agreement with the Canada Employment Insurance Commission (CEIC) for at least 12 months before applying for benefits
-Must have earned at least $8,826 in net self-employed income in 2024 to be eligible in 2025
-Must show your business work hours dropped by over 40% for at least one week due to caring for a critically ill or injured family member, or providing end-of-life care

Individuals who are away from work because they are pregnant, have recently given birth, or adopted a child. Must:
- Be pregnant or have recently given birth when requesting maternity benefits
-A parent caring for your newborn or newly adopted child when requesting parental benefits
- Have normal weekly earnings that are reduced by more than 40%
- Have accumulated at least 600 hours of insurable employment in the 52 weeks before the start of your claim or since the start of your last claim, whichever is shorter

Individuals who are away from work because they are pregnant, have recently given birth, or adopted a child. Must:
- Be pregnant or have recently given birth when requesting maternity benefits

Applicants must:
-Be permanent PEI residents as defined by the Health and Dental Services Cost Assistance Act
-Have a valid PEI Health Card
-Have filed their most recent income tax return in PEI

Families with children who travel at least 100km outside of Halifax, have a financial need, and receive frequent care
