Halifax: Open to all families with patients in the IWK Health Centre * Moncton: Open to families of pediatric and maternity patients in the Moncton Hospital

Applicants must meet the following:
-Be the parents/guardian of a child under age 19 who is a patient at the IWK Health Centre or another medical facility in Halifax for an appointment, treatment, surgery, or other medical reason.
-Live a minimum of 40 km away from the House (under extenuating circumstances, shorter distances may be approved)
-First time stays need to be referred by hospital staff (social worker, doctor or nurse)

The youth with ASD must:
-Be between ags 5-21 years
-B showing an interest in dogs;
-Have significant needs at home and when going out(For example, they have needs that cannot be met by a companion dog)
-Demonstrate certain skills related to the management of a dog or have the potential to acquire the required skills
-Be a resident of Canada
