Travel Off Island: Self-Isolation Exemptions for Same-Day Travel Within Atlantic Canada

Effective February 9, 2021 and until further notice, only the following reasons will qualify individuals for the same-day travel exemption:

• Medical or dental appointments
• Child custody related travel
• Drop-off/pick-up of people

Examples of reasons NOT considered acceptable to qualify for the exemption include drop-off or pick-up of goods, attending interviews or going to meetings.

While the Atlantic Bubble is suspended, there are some exceptions to having to self-isolate for 14 days if travelling within Atlantic Canada. The exceptions include:

• Medical or dental appointments
• Picking-up or dropping off students (must follow the Transporting Travellers to Self-Isolation Location Guidelines https://www.princeedwardisland.ca/en/information/health-and-wellness/transporting-travellers-self-isolation-location-guidance)
• Dropping off a passenger at Halifax or Moncton airports and returning home to PEI
• Child custody related travel

The following conditions must also be met:

• Return to PEI on the same day you departed
• Are travelling in a personal vehicle
• Do not stay overnight
• Do not visit public places such as malls and restaurants; no shopping permitted
• Do not visit friends or family
• Do not attend meetings, conferences or events
• Wear a non-medical mask when outside the vehicle
• Pack food to take if possible, or if not possible, use a drive-thru
• If possible, use pay-at-the pump for gas
• Adhere to public health measures in the jurisdiction you are visiting

If you take regular same-day trips within Atlantic Canada, you are advised to get tested weekly as an additional precaution.
