Transplant Surgery - Travel and Accommodation Cost Assistance

Service Description

Provides cost assistance for travel and accommodation to eligible people who have to travel outside the Maritimes (PEI, NBk, and NS) for transplant surgery.

  • Travel: By reimbursement only. Applicants can claim up to $1,500 every six months for one round-trip by car or economy plane, bus or train ticket.
  • Accommodation: Applicants may be eligible for $2,500 per month to assist with accommodation costs. Utilities and other living expenses are not eligible.

Information

Eligibility:
Individuals referred for heart, heart-lung, single or double lung, liver or pancreas (non-Bcell) transplant surgery that is not available in the Maritimes and who:
-Arrange to live within 8 hours of the hospital where the surgery will take place and be available when a suitable organ is found
-Are having non-experimental transplant surgery

How to Access:
Submit the Out-of-Province Travel and Accommodation Expense Claim Form (available online) within six months of surgery * Separate trips related to the same surgery require separate applications
