Service Description

Provides cost assistance for eligible people who have to travel off-Island for transplant surgery to help cover travel and accommodation:
  • Travel: By reimbursement only. Applicants can claim up to $1,500.00 CDN every 6 months for one round-trip by car or economy plane, bus or train ticket.
  • Accommodation: Applicants may be eligible for $2,500.00 CDN per month to assist with accommodation costs. Utilties and other living expenses are not eligible.

Information

Eligibility:
Individuals referred for transplant surgery that is not available in the Maritimes and who:
-Arrange to live within 8 hours of the hospital where the surgery will take place and be available when a suitable organ is found
-The transplant surgery must be deemed non-experimental

How to Access:
Submit the Out-of-Province Travel and Accommodation Expense Claim Form (available online) within 6 months of your surgery * Separate trips related to the same surgery require separate applications
Documents Required:
Travel assistance: Completed application form, original receipt for travel costs, and all boarding passes * Accommodation expenses: Completed application form
