Service Description

Provides a monthly benefit to low-income widowed spouses who are not yet eligible for the Old Age Security (OAS) pension.

Information

Eligibility:
Must:
-Be between 60-64 years (includes the month of 65th birthday)
-Live in Canada
-A spouse or common-law partner has died and since their death you have not remarried or become a common-law partner to another person
-Have an annual income of less than the maximum annual threshold ($26,256.00)

How to Access:
Apply for the Allowance 6-11 months before your 60th birthday * Apply in writing by completing the form and mailing it and all required documentation or online through a My Service Canada account
Documents Required:
Proof of birth * Proof of marital status * Proof of Canadian Legal Status * Death Certificate of spouse or partner
