Service Description

The Information and Privacy Commissioner is an independent officer of the Legislative Assembly, responsible for reviewing complaints from the public about actions or decisions made under the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FOIPP) and the Health Information Act.The Commissioner has the authority to make recommendations and issue orders to public bodies and custodians of information.
  • Request a Review: Members of the public can request a review if they have made an information request under the FOIPP Act or Health Information Act and they disagree with the public body or custodian's decision about providing the requested information OR if they have received no response to their request.
  • Make a Privacy Complaint: Members of the public can make a complaint if they believe their personal information or personal health information is not being properly collected, used, disclosed or protected by a public body or custodian. The Commissioner will investigate such complaints.

Eligibility:
Open to individuals who:
-Have made an information request under the FOIPP Act or Health Information Act and are not satisfied with the response OR have not received a response within the 30 day time limit
-Believe their personal or personal health information is not being handled in accordance with the FOIPP Act or Health Information Act

How to Access:
Request a Review: Fill out the Request for Review/Complaint Form and submit by mail OR send a letter detailing all relevant information including the name of the public body and the file number assigned to your request and all supporting documentation Make a Privacy Complaint: Fill out the Request for Review/Complaint Form (available online) and send it to the Information and Privacy Commissioner's Office OR send a letter to the Information and Privacy Commissioner's Office outlining the details of your concern including the name of the public body or custodian and as many relevant details you can
