Public Health - Smoking Cessation Program

Service Description

Helps residents who want to stop smoking or using other tobacco products by covering 100% of the cost of nicotine replacement therapy (NRT) products and specific smoking cessation prescription drugs. There are two options for treatment, available once a year for 6-18 weeks of treatment:
  • Option 1: Non-Prescription Nicotine Replacement Therapy (NRT) products such as patches, gum, lozenges, or inhaler
  • Option 2: Approved prescription medication (Zyban or Champix)

Eligibility criteria:
-PEI residents ages 19 years and over who want to quit smoking
-Applicants must have exhausted all private health insurance options first
-Participants can access the program once per year
-Children ages 18 years and under who wish to quit smoking can contact their local Primary Care Network Office to determine treatment options
