Public Health - Occupational Therapy for Preschool Children

Service Description

Provides occupational therapy services for children to help them with motor and sensory skills, where there is a concern the child is not meeting developmental milestones. Occupational therapy can help children in the areas of:
  • Self care: Toileting * Dressing * Bathing * Feeding self * Eating * Simple chores * Following routines
  • Play skills: Playing with a variety of toys and different textures/materials * Taking turns * Copying actions
  • Preschool readiness: Drawing * Colouring * Using scissors * Building with blocks or puzzles
  • Exploring environment: Moving around environment safely * Participating on playground equipment
  • Sensory input: Tolerating different sounds, smells, tastes, or textures
Note: School based occupational therapy for school-aged children is also available, but referrals must come from the school and there is no self-referral process.
