Public Health - Children's Dental Care Program

Service Description

Provides preventative and treatment services to children ages 3-17 years who are not covered by insurance. Includes:
  • Preventative services: Screening * Fluoride * Cleaning * Sealants (some services are done in-school with parental consent)
  • Basic diagnosis and treatment: Checkups * X-rays * Fillings * Extraction * Root canals * Dentures limited to anterior teeth
  • In-hospital treatments: For children who qualify.

Eligibility:
Children ages 3-17 years who are not covered by private insurance
Fees:
Yes * There is a nominal registration fee to access treatment services (not prevention services) and parents are expected if possible to contribute 20% of treatment costs (exemptions are possible)
How to Access:
For preventative services: Call to book an appointment at either Dental Public Health Clinic (Charlottetown or Summerside) or to find out when services are being offered at your child's school next;For treatment services: Register your child with your family dentist or at a Dental Public Health Clinic (Charlottetown and Summerside)
Documents Required:
Treatment: People registering for treatment services will be asked to complete a Declaration Form stating the child is not covered by private insurance * The form is available online and can also be completed ahead of time to bring to your appointment;Parental Contribution Exemptions: Families with an income of less than $30,000.00/year can fill out the Application for Exemption Form (available online) to request to be exempted from paying the 20% parental contribution toward treatment fees
