PEI Broadband Fund for Residents

Service Description

Provides financial assistance to have an internet service provider complete work that will allow residents to receive internet service or improved internet service at their primary residence.

Approved applicants will receive financial assistance of 100% of the eligible project costs, to a maximum value of $5,000 per household.

If the cost is more than $500 applications must be submitted and approved before any work begins. Any expenses from before the application is submitted and approved, are ineligible.

Projects with eligible costs of $500 or less may be covered without pre-approval, providing proper documents are submitted.

Activities covered by the program:
  • Equipment required to improve internet service speed to the residence, including antennas, tripods, hydra poles, and towers
  • Driveway fibre/cable installation in excess of 300 feet from the main road
  • Installation of the required equipment by qualified operators
  • Taxes that the resident is not eligible to have refunded

Eligibility:
Full-time PEI residents who want to upgrade their internet service to their primary residence and one of following applies:
-The only available service is low speed internet (below 50 / 10 Mbps)
-Broadband service exists, but is unavailable at the residence due to obstruction of the signal
-No internet service is available-The property owner or leaseholder with the owner's approval

Online applications are recommended * A printable application can be requested by email * Call to have a hardcopy of the application sent by mail
Documents Required:
If the cost is more than $500: -Quote from the internet service provider for the proposed workIf the cost is less than $500:-An invoice from the internet service provider-If the applicant has paid the invoice then proof of payment and banking details, including a copy of a void cheque-If the applicant has not paid the invoice, then a request for payment directly to the internet service provider
