Service Description
Settlement Workers help new immigrants to Canada though orientation, translation, interpretation, referrals to community resources, para-professional counselling, and general information. Specific areas of assistance may include but are not limited to:
- Navigating the immigration/travel process
- Assistance to understand and communicate with government agencies or services such as Canada Revenue Agency, health services, motor vehicle licensing and registration, and social/child and family services
- Mediate between clients and their landlords
- Help clients find daycare
- Provide liaison service for clients when communicating with outside organizations
- Assistance with Permanent Resident card renewal, Canadian citizenship, and sponsorship of family members' information
Information
Eligibility:
Open to registered IRSA clients who do not yet have Canadian citizenship including:
-People with a Permanent Resident Card (AKA Maple Leaf Card) or Confirmation of Permanent Residence
-Government Assisted Refugees after their first year under the federal Resettlement Assistance Program has ended
-Immigrants who have been allowed to stay in Canada because the federal government intends to grant them Permanent Resident status
-Non-immigrant foreign domestic workers in Canada
-Temporary visa holders (work and student permits, visitor visas)
-Other immigrants who have not yet received citizenship may be eligible
-People with a Permanent Resident Card (AKA Maple Leaf Card) or Confirmation of Permanent Residence

How to Access:
Individuals who are not registered clients can book an appointment with an Intake Worker to become clients for free * Existing clients can drop in, call or contact through website to make an appointment

Depends on specific service being provided * Staff will inform clients of what documents are required

Arabic * English * French * Mandarin * Vietnamese * Interpreters are available in 26 other languages and multiple languages are available on call
