Service Description

Provides free loans of books, DVDs and other multimedia. Most public library locations also offer:

  • Child and youth programs
  • Public access computers
  • Reference desk services
  • Interlibrary loans
  • Assistive technology
  • Access to online resources such as music, language courses, SaltWire's online news content and more

Non-traditional items are also available to borrow. Includes:

  • Artwork
  • Binge Boxes (collections of DVDs all gathered into one "binge box")
  • Board games
  • Cake pans
  • CO2 (Carbon Dioxide) monitors
  • C-Pens (a portable scanning pen that reads printed text out loud)
  • Disc Golf sets
  • Dodow sleep aids (metronome-style sleeping aid that helps users fall asleep naturally through one's breath and relaxation)
  • Energy meters (calculate energy consumption and cost of home appliances)
  • Fitness passes (select locations)
  • Hiking backpacks (for adults)
  • Ice skates
  • Light therapy lamps
  • Mental health kits
  • Musical instruments (150+ instruments to borrow for up to three weeks)
  • Nature backpacks (kit that contains a variety of books and tools for kids and families to learn about nature)
  • Noise cancelling headphones
  • PLAY kits (kits include toys such as bean bags, foam discs, sensory balls, etc that encourage play for toddlers)
  • Radon detectors
  • Sensory kits
  • Snowshoes
  • Snowshoe/walking poles
  • STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) kits
  • Telescopes
  • Thermal cameras
  • Tools (bike repair kits, shovels, gardening tools and hoses, cultivators, stud finders, etc)
  • White noise machines

Eligibility:
Residents of PEI who have a PEI Public Library Card
Fees:
No fee to sign up for a library card * Fees apply if items are lost, damaged or returned late
How to Access:
Apply online or visit a public library to sign up for a library card * To borrow materials, drop in to a library or order online
Documents Required:
Library card: Completed application form * Must present photo ID and proof of address when confirming membership for first time at library branch
