Service Description

Ensures Inuit children have access to the essential government funded health, social and educational products, services and supports they need, when they need them.

Examples of the services covered include, but are not limited to:

Health:
  • Mobility aids
  • Wheelchair ramps
  • Services from Elders
  • Assessments and screenings
  • Medical supplies and equipment
  • Mental health services
  • Therapeutic services such as speech therapy, physiotherapy and occupational therapy
Social:
  • Land-based activities
  • Respite care (individual or group)
  • Specialized programs based on cultural beliefs and practices
Education:
  • Specialized school transportation
  • Tutoring services
  • Teaching assistants
  • Psycho-educational assessments
  • Assistive technology and electronics
  • School supplies


Information

Eligibility:
All Inuit children, no matter where they live in Kanata / Canada, can request funding through the Inuit Child First Initiative. They must be recognized by an Inuit land claim organization and under the age of majority in their province/territory of residence.
