Housing Services - Seniors Housing Program

Service Description

Eligible individuals can apply for rental housing in Seniors Housing units in 32 communities across PEI or be provided with a rent supplement benefit to help pay for private landlord owned housing in any PEI community. Rent is based on the income of the tenant.

Units are generally one-bedroom apartments with a living room, kitchen, bathroom, and storage area. There are a limited number of bachelor and two-bedroom units. Heat is included in the rent. Tenant is responsible for furnishings, utilities other than heat, and tenant insurance.

Eligibility:
PEI residents age 60 years and older or 55 years and older with a disability * Households below one or more of the adequacy, suitability, and affordability standards * Households spending 30% or more of its before-tax household income to access local housing that meets all three standards * Income must be below the following annual gross income levels to apply:

-Bachelor $25,500
-One Bedroom $36,500
-Two Bedroom $40,500
-Three or Four Bedroom $45,000

Yes * Successful applicants must pay their portion of rent, which is calculated based on 25% of their gross income from line 150 of their Notice of Assessment
How to Access:
Complete online application or submit paper application by mail or at any Housing Services office * Staff will then contact applicants to schedule an in-home interview
Documents Required:
Staff will inform applicants what documents are required for Proof of Income when they call to book the in-home interview
