Guide Dogs

Service Description
Provides two types of guide dogs for people with sight loss:
Training is free and the owner is provided with assistance to feed the dog for its entire life. Veterinary bills may be covered upon approval (see Guide Dog Assistance Fund).
- Guide Dog: A guide dog is partnered with a youth or adult with sight loss. Helps with mobility and fosters independence by avoiding obstacles, stopping at curbs and steps or negotiating traffic
- Buddy Dog: A buddy dog is partnered with a child who is living with sight loss

Eligibility:
CNIB clients who meet specific criteria as assessed by an orientation and mobility instructor * Recommended for clients 16 years and older but younger will be considered on a case-by-case basis
