Service Description

Provides temporary financial support by reimbursing employers and or a self-employed person without a paid sick leave program, for sick time of an employee who missed less than 50% of scheduled time in a one week period due to:
  • Attend a COVID-19 vaccination appointment
  • Illness
  • COVID-19 testing
  • The need to self-isolate
  • To care for children because their school or regular childcare facility is closed or unavailable due to COVID-19, or because their child is sick or self-isolating
Employer/self-employed people may apply to the program for a maximum of three days per week on up to two separate occasions, to a maximum of six days for loss of wages that are less than 50% of scheduled time in a one week period.

Information

Eligibility:
Employers must:
-Be a for profit or non-profit organization
-Have physical operations in PEI
-Be registered to do business in PEI
-Be in good standing with the Province's Central Default Registry
-Be paying PEI-based employees for scheduled time missed due to illness or COVID-19 testing or self-isolation requirements, for which the employee does not qualify for sick paid leave under their employment agreement, or qualify for the Canada Recovery Sickness Benefit (CRSB), other provincial programs, or other income replacement or insurance program

Self-employed individuals must:
-Be actively earning income from the business
-Have declared business income on their most recent tax return
-Has business income as their primary source of income
-Demonstrates direct personal financial losses due to illness or COVID-19 testing or self-isolation requirements
-Be in good standing with the Province's Central Default Registry
-Not be eligible for, or receiving either income support through Business Insurance, Canada Recovery Sickness Benefit (CRSB), other provincial programs, or any other income replacement or insurance programs
