Exercise for Health Programs - PEI

Service Description

Provides a free six-week virtual educational program to individuals with chronic diseases to improve heart health, strength, balance, and flexibility. The program is ideal for beginners and will focus on progressive, low to moderate intensity exercise weekly with with a clinical exercise physiologist, Katie Beck. Program includes:
  • Full initial health screening
  • Education on how exercise can help with specific health conditions and any considerations for those on medication and treatment
  • Exercise suggestions that are progressive and tailored to meet individual physical ability. A resistance band will be mailed to home and is the only equipment needed
  • Intention setting sessions, movement challenges, and recreational aspect (trivia, etc.) along the way
  • Introduction to the Graduate Program which will be available after the introductory program has been completed

Information

Eligibility:
Must have one of the following conditions:
-Cancer (Pre, during or 2-3 years post treatment)
-Diabetes (type 1 or 2, or pre-diabetic)
-COPD
-Cardiovascular Disease (for example, heart attack, stroke, high blood pressure, arrhythmia, etc)
-Knee and/or hip osteoarthritis
-Neuromuscular Disease disease (stroke, multiple sclerosis MS, Parkinson's Disease, etc)
