Environmental Health - Rental Accommodations Program

Service Description

Tenants who have health-related concerns about their rental accommodations that have not been addressed in a reasonable period of time by their landlord or property owner can contact Environmental Health for information or to request an environmental health inspection. Concerns include:

  • Potable water concerns (example: not hot water, no running water, etc.)
  • Sewage or septic concerns (example: sewage back-up, clogged pipes, etc.)
  • Pest infestations inside the dwelling
  • Mould, as a result of water damage


Non-health related tenant issues/questions (rental agreement, evictions etc.) are addressed by the Office of the Director of Residential Property.

Eligibility:
Tenants who have attempted to address environmental health concerns about their unit with their landlord/property owner but feel the issue has not been resolved in a reasonable time period * Individuals can only request inspections of their own unit and/or common areas, other units in the building will not be inspected
