Environment - Watercourse, Wetland and Buffer Zone Activity Permit

Service Description

Issues an activity permit in a watercourse, wetland or 15 m buffer zone on or near one's property. Forms should be submitted at least six weeks before the anticipated project start date.

Charged permit:
  • Boardwalk construction in a buffer zone
  • Boardwalk construction in a wetland or sand dune
  • Boat launch or shoreline access
  • Dam or impoundment maintenance
  • Dredging
  • Landscaping
  • New bridge
  • New culvert
  • Repair a bridge
  • Repair a culvert
  • Road construction
  • Seaweed removal or relocation
  • Shoreline protection
  • Stairway to beach
  • Temporary crossing
  • Tree cutting (forest management)
  • Tree cutting (water view)
  • Watercourse enhancement or maintenance
  • Water withdrawal for irrigation
  • Wetland alteration
  • Wetland enhancement or maintenance
  • Wharf repair or construction (in-water work)
  • Wharf repair or construction (no in-water work)
  • Other activities
Free activities:
  • Beaver dam notching or removal to prevent property damage
  • Build a floating dock
  • Stream enhancement
  • Tree cutting for safety hazard(s) or cutting four trees or less
Note: Licensed contractors, community improvement groups, watershed groups, provincial government departments, agencies, and crown corporations are exempt from paying fees.
