Employment Insurance - Sickness Benefits

Service Description

Provides up to 15 weeks of financial assistance for individuals who cannot work for medical reasons. The benefits pay 55% of earnings up to a maximum weekly amount.

Information

Eligibility:
Benefits are payable to individuals who are unable to work due to medical reasons such as sickness, injury or quarantine.

Individuals may be entitled to receive EI Sickness Benefits if they:
-Are employed in insurable employment
-Meet the specific criteria
-See normal weekly earnings reduced by more than 40%
-Have accumulated at least 600 hours of insurable employment during the qualifying period

Documents Required:
A medical certificate that attests to the incapacity, the start date, the probable duration of the incapacity and signed by a doctor or other medical practitioner * Dates (Sunday to Saturday) and earnings for each of the highest paid weeks of insurable earnings in the last 52 weeks or since the start of the last EI claim, whichever is the shorter period * See website for details of supporting information required
