COVID-19: Canada Recovery Benefit

AKA: CRB
Provided by: Government of Canada - Canada Revenue Agency - AKA: CRA

Service Description

Provides income support to employed and self-employed individuals who are directly affected by COVID-19 and are not entitled to Employment Insurance (EI) benefits. Those eligible can:
  • Receive $1000 ($900 after taxes withheld) for a 2-week period
  • Continue to apply every 2 weeks for a total of 13 eligibility periods (26 weeks) covering the period September 27, 2020 to September 25, 2021
Applications opened October 12, 2020 but individuals can apply for back payments to September 27, 2020 so that there was no gap in financial support when the CERB ended.

Note: Applicants can be employed or self-employed while receiving the benefit but the income cut off is $38,000. For every dollar of net income above $38,000, $0.50 will have to be reimbursed to the CRA on income tax returns for that year (2020 or 2021).
