Service Description

UPDATE: To replace the CERB, benefits will now go through Employment Insurance (EI). The CRA is continuing to accept and process retroactive applications for period 7 (August 30-September 26, 2020). Applications must be done through CRA's My Account or automated toll-free line.

Provides financial support to employed and self-employed Canadians who are directly affected by COVID-19.

CERB provides a payment of $2,000 for a 4-week period (the same as $500 a week) for up to 28 weeks. The benefit ends when you've received 28 weeks of benefits or on October 3, 2020. For those who applied through the CRA, the last four-week period for the CERB was August 30-September 26, 2020.

CERB is also available to those who earned $1,000 or less during an eligibility period. If this situation applies, you may be able to apply for a previous period starting at March 15, 2020.

It should take 3-5 business days to receive the a payment if using direct deposit. Otherwise it is approximately 10-12 business days to receive a payment.

Information

Eligibility:
All applying must:
-Have earned a minimum of $5,000 (before taxes) in the last 12 months, or in 2019, from employment/self-employment income or provincial benefit payments related to maternity/parental leave
-Not have quit their job voluntarily
-Reside in Canada and are at least 15 years old
-Have stopped working because of COVID-19 or work hours have been reduced; or regular or fishing EI benefits have run out
