COVID-19: Application Process for Work-Isolation and Rotational Workers

Provided by: Government of Prince Edward Island - Department of Health and Wellness

Service Description

Atlantic Bubble Temporarily Suspended November 24-December 7, 2020

Additional rules are in place for Islanders traveling for work during the Atlantic Bubble suspension:

Work-Isolation: Staff who work in long-term care facilities will not be eligible to work-isolate upon return from travel within the region.

Rotational Workers: Even those travelling for work within Atlantic Canada on set rotational schedule (ex: truckers) will need to register with Public Safety as Rotational Workers. There is a 7 day grace period starting November 24 to submit registration.

All workers under these categories are to wear a mask at all times when outside their household, use contactless pick-up, and limit socializing to their household.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

PEI workers who travel outside the Atlantic Bubble can apply for special accommodations to self-isolation requirements on their return. There are two main categories under this application:

Work-Isolation: Residents who travel outside Atlantic Canada and are not displaying COVID-19 symptoms may apply to return to work on their return under the following terms:
  • Being tested prior to returning to work as well as two more times throughout the 14-day isolation period
  • Self-isolating at home when not at work or attending COVID-19 testing appointments
  • Agreeing to physical distancing, wearing a non-medical mask, frequent hand-washing and sanitizing, and any other arrangements made by their employer while at work

Rotational Workers: Residents who work outside of Atlantic Canada on a regular rotational schedule and return to PEI during their time off may register if they agree to the following conditions. A successful application means they do not have to isolate away from their family while in PEI:
  • Being tested upon return on days 0-2, 4-7 and 10-12 (or for as long as the resident remains in the province)
  • First 14 days in PEI: Not permitted to visit others or host people in their home from outside their household. Not permitted to be in public places (schools, banks, gyms, stores, places of worship, etc). Exceptions: necessary medical or dental appointments, walks off their property, drive thrus, contactless banking, grocery and food delivery or pick-up. Must carry a mask with them incase they are in close contact with anyone.
Note: Workers who are not PEI residents and enter the province for work must continue to receive pre-travel approval from the PEI Office of Public Safety.
