Service Description

People who are the victim of a crime reported to police may be eligible to receive money to help with eligible expenses or losses. Property loss and damage expenses are not included. Examples of types of expenses and losses that may be covered include:
  • Lost wages
  • Pain and suffering
  • Medical or dental expenses
  • Financial assistance to assist victims who have a child born as a result of sexual assault
  • Funeral expenses if the crime resulted in a death

Information

Eligibility:
Victims of personal injury crimes, persons who incurred financial loss or expenses as a result of the death or injury of the victim, and dependents of the victim. * Eligible crimes are listed in the Victims of Crime Act * Applies to crimes that occurred after September 30, 1989 * Generally must apply within 1 year of the crime but extensions are possible in certain circumstances

Call for information * Crime must have been reported to police and victim must have cooperated with investigation
