Child and Family Services - Adoption Services Program

Service Description
Coordinates the process of legal adoption proceedings in PEI as outlined in the Adoption Act. This process creates a legal parent-child relationship between the adopted child and adoptive parent(s). Includes:
- Assisting children in the permanent care of the Director of Child Protection in finding an adoptive family
- Assessing applications from propsective parents and helping them throughout the process of adopting a child
- Adoption Services may also be involved in coordinating the process for private adoption, relative adoption and inter-country adoption

Eligibility:
People age 21 years or older can apply to adopt a child * Further eligibility requirements are assessed by Adoption Services using the Structured Analysis Family Evaluation (SAFE) Assessment

Call, email or schedule an appointment to receive basic information about the adoption program in PEI * An application and questionnaire will be mailed to interested applicants
