Service Description

A refundable tax credit for income eligible individuals and families. There are two parts to the benefit: a basic amount and a disability supplement.

The amount received depends on income and province or territory of residence. Maximums amounts are:
  • Basic amount for single individuals: $1,428
  • Basic amounts for families: $2,461
  • Disability supplement for single individuals: $737
  • Disability supplement for families: $737

Under the new Advance Canada Workers Benefit (ACWB),advance payments equal to 50% of the benefit across three payments will automatically be issued to those who received the benefit in 2022. These payments will be made in July 2023, October 2023, and January 2024. The forth payment will be made after recipients file their 2023 tax returns.

Information

Eligibility:
To be eligible for the Canada Workers Benefit (CWB) you:
-Earn working income and it is below the set annual amount
-Are a resident of Canada for income tax purposes throughout the year
-Are 19 years of age or older on December 31st, or live with your spouse/common-law partner or your child

You are not eligible for the CWB if you:
-Are enrolled as a full-time student at a designated educational institution for more than 13 weeks in the year unless, on December 31st, you have an eligible dependant
-Are confined to a prison or similar institution for a period of at least 90 days during the year
-Do not have to pay tax in Canada because you are an officer or servant of another country, such as a diplomat, or you are a family member or employee of that person

For CWB purposes, an eligible spouse:
-Lives with you as your spouse or common-law partner on December 31st
-Meets all the conditions listed above under eligibility

For CWB purposes, an eligible dependant:
-Is your or your spouse's or common-law partner's child
-Is under 19 years of age
-Is not eligible for the CWB

You may be eligible for the disability supplement if you are eligible for the disability tax credit and have an approved Form T2201, Disability Tax Credit Certificate, on file with the Canada Revenue AgencySee website for further eligibility criteria

Request to receive the benefit on your income tax return * Advance payments are automatically generated for 2023, if the benefit was received in 2022. Or, advance payment of up to 50% can be requested through the CRA's online My Account or by downloading and returning a form by mail
