Call 9-1-1 to report fires, crimes, health emergencies or to save a life where immediate help is needed. Operators will ask questions about the emergency and dispatch the police, the fire department and/or an ambulance as needed.

If in doubt about whether a situation is an emergency or not, call 9-1-1 and they will decide whether help needs to be sent or not.

9-1-1 is for emergencies only. It is not to be used for general inquiries such as calls to police concerning ongoing investigations or calls to fire departments about community events. Inappropriate use of 9-1-1 ties up valuable resources. Intentional abuse of the system can lead to charges.

People with hearing or speech impairments can register to Text with 911 by going to www.textwith911.ca
