Warming/Comfort/Reception Centres:
If required, municipalities will open warming centres. They provide power and heat are a place for people to gather or receive services. The Government of PEI has an online list of warming centres that you can search by municipality name or reception centre name. The search will return information on the reception centre such as location, hours of operation, and services offered. Click here to search.
Shelters:
A list of shelters across PEI can be found here. The Summerside Emergency Shelter will be open 24/7 on Saturday.
During storms or extreme cold snaps, power usage increases. Maritime Electric and Summerside Electric ask residents to monitor for conservation notices. Please see below for where to monitor and information on power outages

Extreme Cold Weather Tips:
- Leave kitchen , bathroom, laundry room, and cupboard doors open to allow for heat in home to reach the pipes.
- Consider insulating pipes most prone to freezing - ones near outside walls, in crawl spaces, attic, and garage.
- Heat pumps may not be effective in extreme cold . Use supplemental heating.
- Remove snow and ice build-up frm outdoor heat pump.
- Consider leaving a slightly open (pencil thin stream) so that there is some movement of water in the pipes.
If power is needed for home oxygen, head to a warming centre.
